The Hundredth (or 100th) Monkey Effect is one in which learning or information gets shared or transmitted very rapidly to several other beings through some supernatural, unnatural or paranormal way at some undefined point of time.
The initial study was based on hundreds of Japanese monkeys that existed on the island around the country. The study was carried out by scientists over a period of 30 years.
The monkeys were fed with sweet potatoes which were dropped onto the soil (or sand) on the islands.
The monkeys didn't like the taste of the potato that much since it was mixed with the dirt from the ground.
One day, a monkey took her potato and went to the nearby waters to wash the dirt off.
Seeing this, many other monkeys also followed in this monkey's footsteps and started washing the dirt off their sweet potatoes before eating them.
Finally, the monkeys on this particular island had found a simple way of keeping their food clean and ensuring that it was tasty as it was supposed to be.
One fine day, the 100th monkey went to the waters to wash his sweet potato.
It is said that when this 100th monkey washed his sweet potato, suddenly through some supernatural means all other monkeys on other islands also started washing their sweet potatoes before eating them.
They had magically and mysteriously learned the habits of the 100 monkeys on this island without even living with them nor knowing them.
This amazing phenomenon is called the 100th Monkeys Effect. And today, many believe that it is an effect that works like a miracle solution in business and certain areas of life.
After all, there are so many things that spread so quickly without any logical explanation to it.
One only needs to look at viral music videos on YouTube to understand that this Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon does exist.
A video called "Gangnam Style" by a Korean Rapper named PSY was released a few years ago and it went viral within hours of it being online.
Within few weeks, the video had over 200 Million views, and in a few months it became the most watched video of all time with over 1.2 Billion views.
Basically, we can use this unique but powerful phenomenon in our own lives.
We just need to realize that we can share an idea or post (like this one) with Millions of people if we reach a small group of people first.
Then once we reach a certain (undefined) number of people, there will be Millions of others who automatically pick up, receive or learn whatever idea, information or post you shared with the first 100 odd readers.
We have used the concept of the 100th Monkey Principle to great effect in receiving over 1 Million Likes
on a social media post.
How does this powerful effect actually work?
It has been said that a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.
That single step begins with first spreading your idea or thought or service to a small group of people who in turn share it with many more...
Who in turn share it with several others, and then magically one fine day thousands and Millions of other people shall receive your idea, thought or service without you doing anything more (personally) to help reach it to them.
There is great power in the 100th Monkey Effect and I certainly believe that it is true.
Unfortunately, not every idea or thought gets shared to thousands of people.
But I have successfully received over 650 Million page views on my posts by following this principle (along with a few others) ever since I started developing and writing content for the web.
It's your turn now to become the 100th Monkey by sharing any useful, important or relevant information you receive along with your family and friends.
